The Learning Lab at HFCC

The ESL Lab is designed to assist non-native English speaking HFCC students with their writing assignments. The lab is intended not only for ESL students enrolled in English courses, but also for any HFCC student whose first language is not English, part-time or full-time. Students who want guaranteed time with an ESL Lab instructor must enroll in ENG 086 ESL at the start of the semester. Enrollment is open until the start of 12-week classes for the fall and winter semesters to accommodate 12-week English classes that may run concurrent to ENG 086 ESL. Limited sections of ENG 086 ESL are also offered in the spring and summer. Beginning Fall 2012, to improve enrollment and retention in ENG 086 ESL, students will be required to meet with an ENG 086 ESL Lab instructor prior to registering for the class in order to get approval to enroll.

ESL Lab instructors will discuss assignments, highlight patterns of errors, and model some corrections. We will provide as much assistance with your writing as time allows.
